Description

A Pre-Garden Series Class that will be held on our farm at the end of the season, when the garden is overflowing and so are our food storage shelves. You can expect the following from this class:

  • A walk through of all the garden styles we have including a raised bed perennial garden, an in ground market and flower garden (commercial style growing), and our high tunnel. We will discuss the pros and cons of each to help you consider what will work best for you and your situation.
  • We will do an overview on the basics of compost and soil, and what to source for starting a garden or amending an already established garden. The ideal time to do this is the Fall, so you will have time to go home and apply this information to set you up for success in the Spring.
  • We will look at and go over the “grammar” of the garden – irrigation parts, weed barrier, trellising, etc with hopes that this will give you a significant help with planning and purchasing prior to the 2024 garden season.
  • After the gardens, we will take a look into our different food storage methods and their pros and cons including freezers, canning, garage, cold rooms, dry storage, etc. We will show our food storage, where we source things off-farm, and how we go about growing, preserving, storing and sourcing 90% of our food outside of grocery stores.

This class is going to be pivotal in setting you up for success in our class series. Not only will you learn the grammar of the garden, but we hope you will also see and be inspired by what is possible when you plan and grow intentionally so that you come to class 1 with a clear vision of what you want to accomplish in the year and years to come. The more specific your goals are, the more help we can give you in achieving them!

Because we believe this class is an essential part of our series, we will open up registration to pre-Garden series class participants 2 weeks earlier than the public. So a ticket to this class secures a ticket to the whole class series!
